Iran Human Rights has named the prisoner whom the Islamic Republic's judiciary executed in Hormozgan on charges of killing police officer Reza Ehterami as Danial Jahanian. According to the organisation, his death sentence was carried out in Bandar Abbas Central Prison, and his conviction was unsound given the serious ambiguities and the evidence in the case file.
The Islamic Republic's judiciary announced the execution on Sunday, 11 October 2026, but Aref Akbari, the Hormozgan prosecutor, did not give the convict's full name, and the official statement mentioned only his first name. According to the prosecutor, Reza Ehterami, a third lieutenant and member of the police rescue forces, was killed in Bandar Abbas during a clash with people whom judicial officials called "fuel smugglers". The Hormozgan Provincial Criminal Court issued the death sentence and the Supreme Court upheld it.
An execution without transparency
No document from Danial Jahanian's trial has been published, and judicial officials have not responded to the ambiguities that Iran Human Rights raised about his case. State media published only the prosecution's account.
Danial Jahanian's execution took place amid an unprecedented wave of executions in Iran. According to HRANA, between October 2025 and October 2026 the Islamic Republic has executed at least 2,003 people, the highest figure in a decade. In these same days, Jaber Khosravi, a patient with a severe mental disorder, was executed in Damghan prison.

Iran Human Rights called the conviction of Danial Jahanian, who was executed in Bandar Abbas prison, unsound.
