Prince Reza Pahlavi in Brussels: the era of appeasing the Islamic Republic must end

Arriving in Brussels on Tuesday, 3 November, to meet European leaders, Prince Reza Pahlavi called for an end to Europe's appeasement of the Islamic Republic after two Dey protesters were executed.

Why it matters: Prince Reza Pahlavi's message from Brussels raises the pressure on Europe to drop its appeasement of the Islamic Republic at the height of a wave of executions of protesters.

Prince Reza Pahlavi arrived in Brussels on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, to meet European leaders. In his first message from the city, he described the execution that same morning of two protesters from the Dey uprising as a sign that Europe's policy of appeasing the Islamic Republic has failed.

In a message published on his official channel, he wrote that he had arrived in Brussels to meet European leaders while the criminal regime ruling Iran had killed two more protesters from the uprising of 18 and 19 Dey (8 and 9 January). Prince Reza Pahlavi named Amirhossein Ebrahimi and Amirhossein Maleki and said they had been executed "solely for the crime of seeking freedom".

The message of the Brussels trip

Prince Reza Pahlavi stated the message of his trip plainly: "The era of appeasing this regime must come to an end." Continued appeasement, he said, means more innocent blood shed in Iran. He added that now is "the time for moral courage and strategic clarity" and that the people of Iran must be helped to bring this regime of repression to an end.

The message came a few hours after the Islamic Republic's judiciary announced the execution of Amirhossein Maleki and Amirhossein Ebrahimi, two people detained during the Dey 1404 protests in Isfahan. With these two executions, the number of people executed in the Ali Khani Square case in Isfahan has risen to nine. Prince Reza Pahlavi's office had warned on Monday of the imminent risk of execution facing the two young men.

From the Brussels Times op-ed to the European meetings

Before the trip, Prince Reza Pahlavi had described Europe's policy toward the Islamic Republic as a failure in an op-ed in the Brussels Times and asked the European Parliament to take five specific steps. His visit to Belgium, followed by Germany, comes as the wave of executions of Dey uprising protesters has intensified and the Islamic Republic is seeking to ease the pressure on it through indirect talks with the United States.

In Brussels, Prince Reza Pahlavi said that Europe's continued appeasement of the Islamic Republic means more innocent blood shed in Iran.
