The marriage ceremony of Alireza Sepahi, one of those detained during the uprising of December 2025–January 2026 who has been sentenced to death in the “Alikhani Square” case in Isfahan, and Mahshad Keshani, a student and imprisoned protester, was performed by telephone on Sunday, 4 October 2026, while both are in prison. According to Voice of America, citing the HRANA news agency, the two were engaged before their arrest and are now asking to be allowed to meet each other in person before Sepahi's possible execution.
Alireza Sepahi, born in 2001, is held in Isfahan's Dastgerd prison, while Mahshad Keshani is imprisoned in the city's Dowlatabad prison. According to HRANA, citing a source close to Sepahi's family, Morteza Barati, the judge in the case, has sentenced him to death four times. Keshani's five-year prison sentence has also been upheld by the Isfahan provincial court of appeal.
Transfer to solitary confinement and a last visit
Iran International and IranWire had earlier reported that Sepahi had been transferred to solitary confinement in Dastgerd prison for his execution and that his family had been summoned for a last visit. His mother, who is herself a prisoner, had been brought to the prison for the visit.
Sepahi's family say there is CCTV footage and other evidence showing that he was not at the scene at the time of the alleged incident in Alikhani Square, but according to them the judge issued the sentence without examining this evidence.
A couple who married in prison are asking for just one meeting before a possible execution.
Executions of protesters
The Islamic Republic has already executed two other protesters in the Alikhani Square case in Isfahan. Human rights organisations say the death sentences against protesters of the December–January uprising are handed down after hasty trials and on the basis of forced confessions. In recent days Siavash Jamshidi, a protester detained in Shahrekord, was also executed.
