Political prisoners taking part in the "No to Execution Tuesdays" campaign went on hunger strike in 66 prisons across Iran on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, the campaign's 141st week. According to Iran International, the campaign said in its weekly statement that at least 22 people were executed in Iran between 29 September and 5 October.
This week's statement was issued under the line: "Execution is a tool of repression; let us unite against it." According to the campaign, those executed last week included Ali Hemmati and Majid Nikandish in Mashhad, Siavash Jamshidi Kheirabadi in Shahrekord, and Alireza Sepahi and Alireza Raisi, two detainees of the Dey uprising, in Isfahan.
Execution of two protesters in the Alikhani Square case
Alireza Sepahi and Alireza Raisi were executed at dawn on Monday, 5 October, in Dastgerd prison in Isfahan. DIAR earlier reported on the execution of two protesters in the "Alikhani Square" case in Isfahan and the reactions to it. Before that, Iran Human Rights had reported at least 70 executions in September.
Reaction of Mai Sato, UN special rapporteur
Meanwhile, Mai Sato, the UN special rapporteur on human rights in Iran, wrote on the social network X that structural violations of the right to a fair trial continue in Iran. According to her, arbitrary detention, torture, forced confessions in place of evidence, restrictions on the choice of lawyer, closed-door trials and unpublished verdicts are systemic flaws of these proceedings.
Referring to the Alikhani Square case, Sato said the charges against the 34 defendants in the case were heard in only five days. She called for a halt to all executions until these flaws are remedied.
