Mothers seeking justice for January uprising gather at Gilan graves

A group of mothers seeking justice for the January uprising honoured the memory of the fallen of the Lion and Sun national revolution by gathering at their graves in Gilan province. The media office of Prince Reza Pahlavi published a short video of the gathering on Tuesday, 20 October 2026.

Introducing the video, the office of Prince Reza Pahlavi called these women "mothers seeking justice for the January uprising": mothers whose children or loved ones were killed by the Islamic Republic's forces of repression during the crackdown on the January uprising, and who now keep the demand for justice alive by gathering at their graves. The exact time of the gathering and the names of the fallen whose graves appear in the video have not been announced.

The fallen of Gilan in the January uprising

Gilan was one of the provinces that paid a heavy toll during the January 2026 uprising. In January, the human rights organisation Hengaw reported that Sara Behboudi, a 45-year-old mountaineer from Rasht, was killed when government forces fired directly at protesters. According to the same organisation, Shole Sotoudeh, a pregnant mother of two from Langarud, was killed together with her unborn child by government forces' fire in Chaf on the evening of 10 January, and Sanam Pourbabaei, a violin teacher from Siahkal, was also killed after government forces opened fire near the Lahijan governorate building.

In recent months, despite pressure from the security bodies, the families of the fallen have repeatedly gathered at their children's graves. In recent days the office of Prince Reza Pahlavi has also published other images of such gatherings, including the birthday celebration of Alireza Sadian at his grave in Farrokhshahr and the discovery of the hidden grave of Alireza Raisi, an executed protester, in the Anarak desert.

By gathering at the graves of the January uprising's fallen, the mothers seeking justice in Gilan have kept the demand for justice alive.
