Background of Pejman Sorani

Pressure on protesters in Isfahan province
Pejman Sorani's death comes at a time of mounting pressure on detainees and participants of the January uprising in Isfahan province. At dawn on Monday, 5 October, the Islamic Republic's judiciary executed Alireza Sepahi and Alireza Raeisi, two protesters in the "Alikhani Square" case in Isfahan, and the office of Prince Reza Pahlavi, responding to these executions, said those responsible for these killings would answer for them in fair courts.
Human rights organisations have repeatedly reported that security agents use extrajudicial violence against protesters and identified citizens, and that such cases rarely reach an independent investigation.
Pejman Sorani, an identified protester of the January uprising, died of a blow to the head, according to the forensic examination.
