Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced seven citizens arrested in the Dey uprising to a combined 60 years and six months in prison. The Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA) reported the sentences on Monday, 19 October 2026; four of those convicted are from one family, with the surname Sabaghi.

According to HRANA, Amir Sabaghi was sentenced to 21 years, Abedin Golshani to 16 years and Samira Mohebbi to 10 years in prison on the charge of "operational action against national security." Mehdi Sabaghi received a total of eight years in prison on the charges of "propaganda against the system," "assembly and collusion" and "membership in hostile groups." Abolfazl Sabaghi was sentenced to two years and six months and Hamid Sabaghi to two years in prison on the charge of "assembly and collusion," and Saeed Javid to one year in prison on the charge of "propaganda against the system." All of these charges are labels of the Islamic Republic's judiciary.

Greater Tehran Penitentiary and Qarchak prison

The six convicted men are held in Greater Tehran Penitentiary, and Samira Mohebbi is held in Qarchak prison in Varamin, a prison that has repeatedly been reported for its inhumane conditions for women political prisoners. The date of these citizens' arrest has not been announced, and HRANA said only that they were arrested in connection with the protests that began on 28 December 2025.

The case of these seven people is the same as that of Borzou Rezaei, a protester who was earlier sentenced to death by the same branch and was transferred on 7 October 2026 to Ghezel Hesar prison in Karaj, a transfer that in recent months has happened to many prisoners before their death sentences were carried out.

Heavy sentences for Dey uprising protesters

These sentences come as part of a new wave of trials of the Dey protesters. In recent days, the Revolutionary Court of Izeh sentenced 19 Bahmai citizens to prison over a memorial ceremony and the Qazvin intelligence office announced the arrest of 39 more protesters. Human rights organisations say these courts issue verdicts without defendants having free access to a lawyer of their choice, and often on the basis of forced confessions.

Seven protesters of the Dey uprising, including four members of one family, received 60 years in prison in a single Revolutionary Court.
