Branch 1 of the Bojnord Revolutionary Court has sentenced Mani Partani, a protester detained during the January 2026 uprising, to a total of eight years in prison. The human rights news agency HRANA reported the news on Monday, 5 October 2026, saying the verdict was issued last week and has been served on the prisoner.
According to HRANA, Mr. Partani's charges were listed as "propaganda activity against the system, insulting the leadership and society, and collusion". He was arrested by security forces in Bojnord during the January protests and is now held in the city's prison. HRANA says he is being kept alongside prisoners held on non-political charges, in breach of the principle of separating prisoners by type of offence.
No further details have been released about the proceedings, his access to a lawyer or the possibility of appealing the verdict.
Heavy sentences for Bojnord protesters
Bojnord, the capital of North Khorasan province, is one of the cities where the Islamic Republic's judiciary has issued numerous sentences against protesters in the months since the January uprising. HRANA had earlier reported that Mehdi Pakmehr, a singer and café owner in the city who was wounded by birdshot during the protests and arrested on 9 January, had been sentenced by Bojnord's revolutionary and criminal courts to six years of discretionary imprisonment and 80 lashes. According to the organisation, judicial officials had refused to give him written copies of the verdicts.
The handing down of long prison terms to those detained in the January uprising continues as the Islamic Republic has also executed several more protesters in recent days. At dawn on this same Monday, the judiciary executed Alireza Sepahi and Alireza Raeisi, two detainees in the "Alikhani Square" case in Isfahan.

Bojnord's Revolutionary Court has handed Mani Partani, one of those detained in the January uprising, eight years in prison.
