Mizan news agency, which is affiliated with the Islamic Republic's judiciary, announced on Saturday, 3 October that the death sentence of Siavash Jamshidi Kheirabadi, one of those detained during the nationwide January uprising in Shahrekord, had been carried out.
According to Agence France-Presse, the judiciary had charged him with «moharebeh» (waging war against God) for drawing a weapon and opening fire, as well as with «assembly and collusion against national security». The list of announced charges also includes charges such as fraud, making threats, theft and possession of a military-grade weapon.
Judiciary media have claimed that on 8 January he fired at officers on Naser Khosrow Street in Shahrekord. The claim rests on a confession attributed to him that cannot be independently verified. Human rights organisations have repeatedly said that confessions from detained protesters are extracted under pressure and torture.

Execution campaign after the January uprising
The nationwide protests began in mid-December 2025 and peaked on 8 and 9 January 2026. According to Agence France-Presse, Islamic Republic officials themselves have put the death toll at more than three thousand, and non-governmental organisations say the security forces opened fire on protesters.
Since last March, dozens of protesters have been hanged after trials that sometimes lasted less than two months.
In a statement on 10 September, Human Rights Watch described the protest-related executions as an «unlawful campaign». According to Amnesty International, between 18 March and the end of August 2026 the Islamic Republic's authorities announced the execution of 29 people in connection with the protests, some of them carried out in public. The organisation said in August that at least 60 people, including three children, were at risk of execution.
The Islamic Republic executed more than 1,600 people in 2025, the highest figure since 1989.
