The mother of Salar Rashidzadeh, a death-row prisoner in Yasuj Central Prison, suffered a heart attack and died during the family's final visit with her son, after learning that the carrying out of the sentence was near. According to Iran Human Rights, the execution was delayed by several days after the mother's death, but Salar Rashidzadeh was finally executed in Yasuj prison on Wednesday, 7 October 2026.

Salar Rashidzadeh was 49, from Qazvin, a resident of the Imamzadeh Hasan neighbourhood of Tehran and a father of three. He used a pickup truck to carry goods from the Sadeghieh fruit and vegetable market to nearby cities. According to a well-informed source, his execution had first been scheduled for 29 September and was carried out eight days after his mother's death. The authorities of the Islamic Republic have not announced his execution so far.

Salar Rashidzadeh's case and charge

About four years ago he was arrested near Yasuj while transporting a load and was accused of carrying 8.6 kilograms of crystal meth and heroin. The Revolutionary Court sentenced him to death.

The wave of drug-related executions in Iran's prisons

Salar Rashidzadeh's execution is part of a broad wave of executions in Iran, most of whose victims are people convicted in drug cases. Last week, Habib Rakhmshah, a father of five, was executed on drug charges in Gorgan prison, and the authorities did not announce his execution either. According to the UN Secretary-General's latest report, at least 1,639 people were executed in Iran in 2025, nearly half of them on drug-related charges.

Salar Rashidzadeh's mother died at the final visit, and the Islamic Republic executed her son eight days later.
