This report updates: Jailed mountaineer Alisina Mostafavi moved to solitary confinement; he faces imminent execution

The Islamic Republic's judiciary announced on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, the execution of Alisina Mostafavi, a 38-year-old mountaineer and political prisoner from Kerman. Hours earlier, in its previous report, DIAR had reported that he had been moved to solitary confinement and that his family had been summoned for a final visit.

Mizan news agency, the judiciary's mouthpiece, claimed that Alisina Mostafavi had been involved in two shootings in Kerman in March–April which, according to the agency, wounded citizens, and that he had filmed locations targeted in the war. The judiciary also claimed he carried out these acts in support of Prince Reza Pahlavi and Israel. No details of the trial proceedings, the court that issued the sentence or the evidence presented have been published.

Execution after human rights warnings

The human rights organisation Dadban had warned on Tuesday, 13 October, that with Alisina Mostafavi's transfer to solitary confinement, his sentence was about to be carried out. The organisation Human Rights for Sport had also placed his name on its list of athletes at risk of execution. Before the sentence was carried out, Prince Reza Pahlavi's media office had also described him as a young athlete and mountaineer who had climbed peaks including Everest, and had said his sentence was issued by a show trial on the basis of confessions extracted under torture. The Prince's office had called on compatriots to be the voice of prisoners facing execution.

Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and UN experts have repeatedly documented the rushed and unfair proceedings of the Islamic Republic's Revolutionary Courts in similar cases. Human rights organisations regard such executions as arbitrary and political, and stress that the judiciary's accusations must not be treated as established fact.

A wave of political executions

The execution of Alisina Mostafavi follows a wave of political executions in recent weeks. On Tuesday, 13 October, Amnesty International called the execution of five protesters from the January uprising in a single week a tool of intimidation, and two days earlier Omar Dorostaran had also been executed with no documentation of his trial. During the months of war, the Islamic Republic has turned the accusation of collaborating with Israel and supporting Prince Reza Pahlavi into one of the most common pretexts for issuing death sentences against political prisoners.

The Islamic Republic executed Alisina Mostafavi on charges of supporting Prince Reza Pahlavi and published no documentation of his trial.
