The Islamic Republic's judiciary announced on Monday 12 October 2026 that it had carried out the death sentence of Omar Dorostaran, son of Abdolghader, on charges of membership in the group Jaish al-Adl. According to Iran International, the judiciary has neither published any evidence on the case nor given any explanation of the course of his trial. The date and place of the execution have also not been announced.

According to Voice of America, the judiciary claims Dorostaran provided housing for Jaish al-Adl's operational teams, moved people, supplied weapons and ammunition, and scouted military bases. The judiciary has linked him to the attack on a police and IRGC headquarters in Rask, the attack on the Parud base and attacks on military bases in Chabahar in March–April 2024, attacks in which at least 16 members of the security forces were killed. According to Voice of America, Dorostaran's trial could not be independently examined.

Executions of Baluch prisoners and opaque courts

The execution was announced only through a brief official statement, with no indictment, no name of a lawyer and no details of the trial. Such cases are heard in revolutionary courts behind closed doors, and human rights sources have repeatedly reported that defendants in them have no access to a lawyer of their choice and that their confessions are extracted under pressure.

Jaish al-Adl is an armed Baluch group formed in 2012 after the Jundallah group, operating in Sistan and Baluchestan province along roughly 900 kilometres of border with Pakistan. Both the United States and the Islamic Republic regard the group as terrorist. In recent years Sistan and Baluchestan has been one of the regions that has suffered the most repression and executions at the hands of the Islamic Republic, including the shooting of a 15-year-old boy by military forces in Zahedan reported this same week.

The wave of executions in Iran

This execution comes amid an unprecedented wave of executions in Iran. According to HRANA, the Islamic Republic executed at least 2,003 people between October 2025 and October 2026, the highest figure in a decade. On Sunday, Esmail Khalili Baseri was also executed in Adelabad prison in Shiraz. Gina Romero, the UN special rapporteur, has said at least 46 protesters have been executed in Iran since March.

The Islamic Republic's judiciary executed Omar Dorostaran and published no document from his case or trial.
