State TV airs live mock execution of Trump in Tehran's Tajrish Square

Channel 3 of the Islamic Republic's TV aired live on the night of 4 November a mock execution of an actor in a Trump mask in Tehran's Tajrish Square, part of a campaign of death threats against him.

Why it matters: Turning state television into a stage for death threats against the US president raises the risk of renewed war and its cost for the people of Iran.

Channel 3 of the Islamic Republic's television on the night of Wednesday 4 November 2026 aired live from Tehran's Tajrish Square a mock execution of US President Donald Trump. In the staged show, an actor wearing a Trump mask and prison clothes was "executed" by a man dressed in an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) uniform, while a group of regime supporters watched and cheered.

The show was part of a prison-themed exhibition set up by Tehran's municipality: a life-size cell in which an actor playing Trump had been held since mid-October.

A state campaign to kill Trump

The broadcast coincided with the anniversary of the seizure of the US embassy in Tehran and came a few days after the Republicans' defeat in the US midterm elections. On Wednesday evening in Tehran's Enghelab Square, a large banner showing Trump, JD Vance, Benjamin Netanyahu and Steve Witkoff was also set on fire as the crowd chanted "We will kill Trump". A billboard in the same square shows Trump behind bars with the English sentence "We will kill Trump". The account of the Islamic Republic's embassy in India also posted an AI-generated video showing Trump being thrown into a "hazardous waste" bin.

Since Ali Khamenei was killed in a US and Israeli strike on 28 February 2026, officials and state media have repeatedly called for the killing of Trump and Netanyahu. On 27 June, 66 members of the Assembly of Experts declared the two "mahdur al-dam" (whose blood may be shed) and said killing them was the duty of anyone with access to them.

Reactions from Iranian users

Alireza Rajaei Arbabi, a media activist, called the programme a "ridiculous show" on X and wrote that the regime is trying to project authority through such acts. Other users asked whether all the Islamic Republic's power had been reduced to executing a Trump scarecrow.

As speculation about a resumption of the war grows, the Islamic Republic's television aired a live mock execution of the US president.
