Tomáš Zdechovský, a member of the European Parliament from the Czech Republic, reaffirmed his support for the Iranian nation's struggle for freedom, democracy and human dignity after meeting Prince Reza Pahlavi. Prince Reza Pahlavi's media office published his message on Thursday 5 November 2026.
Zdechovský is a member of the European People's Party group, the largest group in the European Parliament, and vice-chair of the Parliament's delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia. In a message on X, he wrote that Iranians have the right to choose their future free from repression and fear, and that Europe must stand firmly with those working for a free and democratic Iran.
Prince Reza Pahlavi's meetings with European lawmakers
Zdechovský's message followed Prince Reza Pahlavi's meetings with members of the European Parliament in recent days. In these talks, the Prince has urged Europe to abandon its policy of appeasement towards the Islamic Republic, impose new targeted sanctions and take practical steps to give Iranians access to a free internet.
The European People's Party group, to which Zdechovský belongs, is one of the most influential political groups in the European Union, and several of its other members have also met Prince Reza Pahlavi this week.
After meeting Prince Reza Pahlavi, the Czech MEP said Iranians themselves must choose Iran's future, free from repression and fear.
