Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, said on Saturday, 10 October 2026, that in a phone call with Donald Trump on Friday, Vladimir Putin relayed the Islamic Republic's view on ending the war with America to the US president. According to him, this was done in coordination with Masoud Pezeshkian, the president of the Islamic Republic.

According to the Russian state news agency TASS, Peskov said that on the sidelines of the Commonwealth summit and the Caspian Sea environmental summit in Turkmenistan, Putin met Pezeshkian twice, and in one of these meetings informed him of his upcoming call with Trump. The Kremlin has not published any details of the plan, and there is no word on Washington's reaction to it.

The Islamic Republic turned to Moscow to end the war

According to Spanish media citing news agencies, in his meeting with Pezeshkian Putin called the situation in the Middle East serious and said the Islamic Republic had presented new proposals to end the conflict. However, according to the Kremlin spokesman, most of the phone call was devoted to the war in Ukraine, at Trump's request.

The Kremlin had earlier said that in the same call, which lasted about 90 minutes, Trump welcomed Russia's participation in efforts to end the war. Trump described the conversation as very successful and promised that the war with the Islamic Republic would end soon, but gave no details. A large part of the call dealt with Russian fuel exports, and Trump said Russia would initially supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel.

Russia, the Islamic Republic's ally in the war

The relaying of the Islamic Republic's message via Moscow comes as Russia is regarded as one of this regime's closest partners. Bloomberg, citing a Western official, had reported that Russia is supplying missiles to the Islamic Republic; Russia's Defense Ministry did not respond to the report. At the same time, Bloomberg has reported that the Islamic Republic has retained its capacity to build missiles and drones during the war.

The development comes after Trump announced he would not attack Iran until the midterm elections, while the naval blockade of the Islamic Republic continues. Talks on enrichment also remain deadlocked, and US Vice President JD Vance has made a real reduction in enrichment capacity a condition for ending the war.

Under the pressure of the naval blockade, the Islamic Republic delivered its plan to end the war to the White House via Putin.
