Prince Reza Pahlavi's office warns two young men in Isfahan face imminent execution

Prince Reza Pahlavi's office warned on 2 November that Abolfazl Ebrahimi and Amirhossein Maleki, Dey protesters held in Isfahan's Dastgerd prison, face imminent execution.

Why it matters: Executing two 20-year-olds after a closed trial is a warning that the Islamic Republic answers the Dey protesters with the gallows.

Prince Reza Pahlavi's media office warned on Monday night, 2 November 2026, that Abolfazl Ebrahimi and Amirhossein Maleki, two 20-year-old men detained during the Dey uprising, are at imminent risk of execution. According to the Prince's office, the two prisoners are held in Isfahan's Dastgerd prison, and their families have been summoned for a visit that may be the last.

Prince Reza Pahlavi's office called the sentences unjust and the product of show trials, and urged Iranians to be their voice and to do everything possible to save their lives.

The Alikhani Square case in Isfahan

Abolfazl Ebrahimi and Amirhossein Maleki are among 12 defendants in a case known as the "Alikhani Square" case in Isfahan. Islamic Republic officials claim that four Basij members were killed in this square, between Malekshahr and Kaveh, during the protests of 8 January 2026, after which dozens of people were arrested. The authorities have charged the defendants with involvement in murder, arson and destruction, but the trials were held behind closed doors and the verdicts have not been published.

The Supreme Court has upheld the death sentences of the 12 defendants in this case. In July 2026, 14 prisoners were moved from Dastgerd prison's general ward to solitary confinement, and in August the families of several defendants were summoned for a final visit. UN human rights experts have said the specific charge against each defendant is unclear and that the defendants were denied independent lawyers at their first trial.

A wave of death sentences against Dey protesters

The warning comes as the Islamic Republic's judiciary issues new death sentences against detainees of the Dey uprising. Prince Reza Pahlavi's office had earlier warned of the imminent risk of execution of Shahab Zohdi in Ghezel Hesar prison, and the Revolutionary Court in Kerman sentenced Shayan Shakibaei to death.

Two 20-year-old men from Isfahan, protesters of the Dey uprising, are on the verge of execution after a trial behind closed doors.
