Trump: one or two sites left in Iran, a 10-minute job

Donald Trump said on Saturday night, 31 October, that the US still has to deal with one or two Islamic Republic sites, including Kuh-e Kolang, and that the Islamic Republic cannot be trusted in talks.

Why it matters: Trump's remarks show that a new strike on the Islamic Republic's remaining facilities is still on the table and the current calm is fragile.

Trump: one or two sites left in Iran, a 10-minute job

US President Donald Trump told reporters in Florida on the evening of Saturday 31 October 2026 that the United States still has to deal with one or two Islamic Republic sites and can do it in 10 minutes. He named the underground facility at Kuh-e Kolang among them.

On the talks under way through Qatari mediation, Trump said the discussions were going well but that the Islamic Republic is not very trustworthy; officials in Tehran, he said, agree and then pull back, although they want a deal. He added that the US is in no hurry to reach an agreement and that the Islamic Republic will never get a nuclear weapon.

Claim that most military capability is destroyed

The US president said the Islamic Republic's navy, air force, air defences, most of its military equipment, a large part of its production capacity and its nuclear facilities and programme have been destroyed. Asked whether he would resume the war this week, he called the question meaningless and said that even if he had made such a decision, he would not tell reporters.

Doha talks and Tehran's threats

Trump spoke as a delegation from the Islamic Republic's foreign ministry travelled to Doha on Saturday for talks with Qatari mediators. Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, has said the tone of JD Vance's letter has changed completely, but Tehran is still raising conditions such as the lifting of new sanctions and a reduced US military presence in the region.

Earlier, Marco Rubio said Trump had not yet decided on a new attack. The US has also warned several Persian Gulf states to be ready for a new round of strikes after the 3 November congressional elections. An Israeli official also told Ynet that Israel is preparing for a possible confrontation immediately after those elections.

Trump says one or two targets remain in Iran and he will not announce the timing of a strike in advance.
