Mohammad Naderi, a political prisoner held in Ghezel Hesar prison in Karaj, is at imminent risk of execution. Prince Reza Pahlavi's media office said early on Friday, 30 October 2026, that the Islamic Republic's Supreme Court has upheld his death sentence.

According to the Prince's office, Mohammad Naderi was arrested in connection with the war between the United States and Israel and the Islamic Republic, and was sentenced to death in what the office calls "show trials" on "fabricated charges". The charge brought against him by the Islamic Republic's judiciary is "espionage", a charge that has been used repeatedly against detainees in the months since the war.

Sudden transfer to Ghezel Hesar

Mohammad Naderi was previously held in Greater Tehran prison. On Monday, 5 October, he was transferred without prior notice to Ghezel Hesar prison in Karaj. Ghezel Hesar is one of the main sites where death sentences are carried out in Iran, and the sudden transfer of death-row prisoners there is usually a sign that an execution is near.

Using the hashtag "Last Breath", Prince Reza Pahlavi's office called on Iranians to be the voice of political prisoners at risk of execution and not to let the Islamic Republic take more young lives "in silence and darkness".

Executions in the shadow of war

Mai Sato, the UN Special Rapporteur, told the General Assembly in a report a few days ago that the Islamic Republic has used the war to intensify repression (DIAR's report). UN human rights experts have also called for an immediate halt to executions in Iran.

No further information has been released about the status of Mohammad Naderi's case, his lawyer or his family's access to him.

Mohammad Naderi's death sentence, a political prisoner arrested during the war, has been upheld by the Islamic Republic's Supreme Court.
