Reza Talaei-Nik, spokesman for the Islamic Republic's defence ministry, claimed on Tuesday 6 October 2026 that Iran's capacity to produce weapons, defence equipment and ammunition has increased two and a half times compared with before the war began on 28 February 2026, and that production of some types of weapons has more than tripled. He warned that any new attack by the United States or Israel would meet a "decisive response".
According to Anadolu Agency, citing the IRGC-affiliated Fars news agency, Talaei-Nik said potential targets for retaliation have already been prepared and that the armed forces have been equipped with more advanced missile and drone technologies, upgraded air defences and new naval, ground and air systems. He said more than 1,000 systems, weapon types, equipment and munitions fall within the defence ministry's production capacity. The ministry spokesman also said defence cooperation with Russia and China continues and that consultations have intensified in some areas. These claims cannot be independently verified.
Earlier claims about arms production
In August, according to the Tasnim news agency, Talaei-Nik had also claimed that production of weapons and defence equipment doubled in the year after the 12-day war of June 2025. His new figures are higher than those claims and come as mutual threats between Tehran and Washington intensify.
The day before, Ali Abdollahi, chief of the general staff of the armed forces, had threatened countries hosting US forces, saying the fire of any new war would engulf everyone. Meanwhile, Germany's domestic intelligence agency has reported that the Islamic Republic is secretly making purchases in Germany to rebuild its missile capabilities.
The Islamic Republic's defence ministry claims it has increased its arms production capacity two and a half times compared with before the war.
