Residents of Hormozgan province reported an air strike on an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) missile launch pad in Sirik county, on the shore of the Strait of Hormuz, in the early hours of Monday, 26 October 2026. According to residents' reports, the attack was carried out by a drone, and residents attribute it to US forces. As of publication, neither US Central Command (CENTCOM) nor Islamic Republic officials had taken a position on it.

The first reports, at around 1 a.m. Tehran time, spoke of the sound of missile fire in the Strait of Hormuz area. Shortly afterwards, reports sent by residents to free media said an IRGC launch pad in the area had been hit in an air strike, and one of them said an MQ-9 drone had targeted the launch pad. Residents also reported that military vehicles and ambulances had gone to a village near Sirik, and spoke of a number of IRGC personnel being killed. These reports have not yet been confirmed by any other independent source, and the possible death toll is unclear.

IRGC launch pads on the shore of the Strait of Hormuz

In recent months the IRGC has used the shores and islands of Hormozgan to fire missiles and lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz shipping lane. US forces had previously also targeted IRGC launch pads on Larak Island, opposite this same shore; launch pads that, according to a US official, were being prepared to fire rockets carrying naval mines into the Strait of Hormuz.

On Saturday evening, residents of Bandar Lengeh and Bandar Kong had also reported loud explosions and fighter jets flying overhead (earlier DIAR report). One resident of the area had said attacks on the launch pads happen almost every night.

Ahead of Donald Trump's decision

These reports come as Donald Trump has said he will soon decide between a deal with the Islamic Republic and continuing military operations (DIAR report). The Islamic Republic's army had also claimed on Sunday that it shot down a US drone over Bandar Abbas, a claim that no independent source confirmed (DIAR report). The CENTCOM commander also flew over the Strait of Hormuz that same day and said the main shipping lanes had been cleared of the Islamic Republic's mines.
