The public relations office of the Islamic Republic's army claimed on Sunday, 25 October 2026, at about 10:54 Tehran time, that the army's air defences, operating within the integrated air defence network, had hit and destroyed a US LUCAS drone in the sky over Bandar Abbas.
No independent source had confirmed the claim at the time of publication. The Islamic Republic's army has released neither an image of the drone's wreckage nor any details of the exact time and place of the interception, and the United States has not responded to it.
A repeated claim in days of tension
The Islamic Republic's army made a similar claim on 13 July 2026, during a new wave of strikes by US Central Command, about destroying a LUCAS drone over Bandar Abbas; the United States never confirmed it. LUCAS is a low-cost one-way attack drone that the US military built by copying the Shahed-136 drone and has deployed in the Central Command area since last year.
The new claim comes as Donald Trump has said that a new strike on the Islamic Republic is on the table any day now and US officials have said military options are ready. The Israeli army also announced that it began an exercise with several divisions and the air force on Sunday morning. On the same day, Abbas Araghchi said the Strait of Hormuz will not return to its pre-war status, and two officials of the Islamic Republic had earlier spoken of expanding Tehran's target list to US diplomats.

The Islamic Republic's army has once again announced the destruction of a US drone without any evidence or image.
