Residents of Bandar Lengeh and Bandar Kong in Hormozgan province reported hearing two loud explosions in the two coastal towns early on Saturday 24 October 2026, at around 1 a.m. Tehran time. At the same time, citizen reports describe several fighter jets flying over Bandar Abbas and Bandar Lengeh.
According to messages citizens sent to the independent media, two sounds were heard in Bandar Kong: the first resembled firing, and the second, according to one resident, shook the house. A resident of Bandar Lengeh also said the sound of firing from launch platforms in the area is heard almost every night, but this time it was more intense than on previous nights. A few minutes earlier, citizens had reported army fighter jets flying over Bandar Abbas.
What is still unclear
At the time of publication, the source of the explosions, their possible target and the extent of any damage or casualties are unclear. Neither the US military nor the Israeli military has announced any strike in the area, and the Islamic Republic has given no official explanation. At the same time, channels supporting the IRGC claimed that the Islamic Republic had begun "pre-emptive attacks", a claim no independent source has confirmed.
Background: Hormozgan's coast at the centre of tension
Hormozgan's coast has repeatedly been the scene of explosions in recent weeks. Earlier, residents of Sirik had reported a second attack on an IRGC missile platform. These reports come a few hours after Donald Trump said in Florida that the US may carry out another military operation against the Islamic Republic, and after the IRGC Navy claimed two supertankers had hit mines in the Strait of Hormuz, a claim DIAR has examined.
Bandar Lengeh and Bandar Kong, at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz, heard loud explosions early on Saturday, and their source is still unclear.
