The United States and nine other countries in the Americas condemned the terrorist activities of the Islamic Republic and its proxy forces in the Western Hemisphere in a joint statement on Monday, 5 October 2026, and pledged to step up their cooperation to counter this threat.
According to the US State Department, the statement was issued following a meeting of the Countering Transnational Terrorism Forum, co-hosted by the United States and Paraguay, which aimed to strengthen law enforcement cooperation to disrupt the Islamic Republic's terrorist activities in the region. The signatories are the United States, Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, and Trinidad and Tobago.
What the statement condemns
According to the text of the statement, the countries listed lethal plotting, illicit fundraising, political interference, foreign influence operations, and efforts to bolster terrorist networks and compromise legal and administrative processes among the actions of the Islamic Republic and its proxy groups. According to Voice of America, the signatories regard these activities as a threat to regional security.
The signatory countries commended the efforts of countries in the region to counter the Islamic Republic's malign activities and said they would take further measures and strengthen coordination among themselves.
Background: international pressure on the Islamic Republic's networks
The statement comes four months after a joint statement by the United States and 21 European and non-European countries in June 2026, which condemned operations by the IRGC Intelligence Organization, the Quds Force and the Ministry of Intelligence against Iranian dissidents, journalists and Jewish communities in Europe, North America and Australia.
In recent days, new accusations have also emerged about the Islamic Republic's role in plots outside Iran, including the case of two Iranian nationals accused of scouting a synagogue in Manchester for an attack and the withdrawal of US bombers from RAF Fairford in Britain over the threat of an attack. The United States also expelled two members of the Islamic Republic's delegation to the United Nations.

Ten countries in the Americas targeted the Islamic Republic's terrorist networks in the Western Hemisphere in a joint statement.
