On Saturday 17 October 2026, the Islamic Republic executed Amir Darzadehpour, a prisoner of about 40 from the village of Desk in the Bent district of Nikshahr, in Zahedan Central Prison. According to the Baluchistan Human Rights Documentation Network, he was married and the father of three children, and had been arrested in 2017 on a murder charge and sentenced to death by a criminal court.

According to this human rights body, Amir Darzadehpour had spent about nine years in Chabahar prison and was transferred to Zahedan prison nearly two months ago. On Thursday 15 October he was taken to quarantine, where prisoners are held before their sentences are carried out, and on Friday 16 October his family saw him for the last time. The authorities of the Islamic Republic have so far not officially announced the execution.

Amin Ghodousian's arrest in Chabahar

At the same time, on the evening of Wednesday 14 October, agents of the Intelligence Office arrested Amin Ghodousian, a citizen of about 27 from the village of Shekarjangal in Rask county, in Chabahar. According to the Baluchistan Human Rights Documentation Network, he is married with two children and worked in Chabahar.

Six days later, neither the charge against Amin Ghodousian nor the reason for his arrest has been made clear, and his family has no news of where he is held. Arrest without a stated charge and detention in an unknown location is a pattern seen in recent arrests as well, including Erfan Karamveisi, a 19-year-old from Badreh in Ilam.

Executions and pressure on Baluch compatriots

In recent years Baluch compatriots have accounted for a disproportionate share of executions in Iran, and human rights bodies have repeatedly warned about trials without lawyers and forced confessions in their cases. The wave of executions in Iran's prisons continues; last week, too, Milad Darvishi, a 31-year-old father, was executed in Arak prison.

Amir Darzadehpour was executed in Zahedan after nine years in prison, and Amin Ghodousian is still unaccounted for six days after his arrest in Chabahar.
