Ali Abdollahi, chief of staff of the Islamic Republic's armed forces, warned on Monday, 5 October 2026, that if a new war against Iran begins, its fire will engulf everyone. He addressed the countries in the region that host US forces and said they would not be spared the consequences of another conflict with Iran.
According to state media, including Mehr News Agency, Abdollahi also called the presence of US forces the main source of insecurity and economic problems in the region, and claimed that the Islamic Republic's armed forces are ready to confront threats "of any kind and at any level".
Israel Hayom: the Israeli military's independent plans
Meanwhile, the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom reported that the Israeli military is preparing for its next operation against the Islamic Republic independently of US involvement and has fully independent contingency plans. According to the newspaper, whose report was relayed by Voice of America, intelligence and operational coordination between Israel and the United States remains close.
According to Israel Hayom, the Islamic Republic's nuclear programme, which is said to hold dozens of kilograms of highly enriched fissile material, is at the centre of Israel's planning. The newspaper pointed to the "Pickaxe" tunnel complex near the Natanz facility, to which International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors have never had access. However, the newspaper wrote, because the Iran file is tied to the US midterm elections, unilateral action before the elections appears unlikely.
Netanyahu: Iran's regime is at its weakest
According to DW Persian, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also said on Monday that Israel will not allow Iran to threaten its existence. He said Iran's government is in its weakest state since its founding, is fighting for survival and will eventually disappear.
These remarks come as Donald Trump has rejected Tehran's proposal for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, Tehran is still awaiting Washington's official reply through mediators, and the United States has sent its third aircraft carrier to the region.
The Islamic Republic's top military commander threatened countries hosting US forces, as Israel prepares for an independent strike.
