US President Donald Trump said at the White House on Monday, 5 October 2026, that he personally believes the Islamic Republic is responsible for the attack by the co-pilot of a flydubai flight bound for Israel. According to the Times of Israel, Trump, answering reporters' questions about Tehran's role in the attack on the flydubai flight, stressed that this was his own belief, but offered no evidence for it.
Fox News correspondent Lucas Tomlinson also reported that Trump told him at the White House that he holds Iran responsible for the attack. This position does not match the official assessments so far: according to the Times of Israel, Israeli security officials have concluded that the Omani co-pilot acted alone, and Benjamin Netanyahu had also said it was too early to judge Iran's role. US Vice President JD Vance had also said earlier the same day that he had not yet seen conclusive and convincing evidence of Tehran's involvement.
The Fairford bombers and the "threats"
In the same remarks, Trump confirmed that the United States had withdrawn all B-1 bombers from RAF Fairford in Britain because of threats, without giving any details of those threats. According to Gulf News, he said that instead of tempting the enemy, they had moved the bombers. According to the Wall Street Journal, US intelligence officials were aware of an Iran-linked plot to target the bombers and US personnel at the base. On Sunday night the Pentagon had confirmed the departure of all bombers from Fairford. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Monday that Washington remains confident in the security of all its bases outside the United States.
According to media inside Iran that carried Trump's remarks, he also said the United States is always ready for direct negotiations with Iran and described the situation in the Strait of Hormuz as normal. These remarks came a few hours after Masoud Pezeshkian called negotiations with the United States meaningless.
Background to the attack on the flydubai flight
In this incident, according to Fox News, the co-pilot of the flydubai flight, which had more than 180 people on board, stabbed the pilot and tried to bring the plane down. Trump had earlier warned that if Tehran's role were proven, the Islamic Republic would be hit hard. The Islamic Republic's foreign ministry rejected attempts to link the attack to Tehran and called it a false flag operation. US officials had also said, before Trump's latest remarks, that no sign of Tehran's involvement had been seen.

Contrary to the assessment of his vice president and Israeli security officials, Trump holds the Islamic Republic responsible for the attack on the flydubai flight.
