The Islamic Republic's security bodies have demanded about 10 billion tomans from the families of three Baloch citizens who were killed about 10 days ago when military forces opened fire in Zahedan, in return for handing over their bodies. The Baluchestan Human Rights Documentation Network reported the demand in a report published by Wednesday, 14 October 2026.

According to the human rights body, two of the victims are Mohammad Sanjarani, 22, and Aziz Rigi, 25, both from Zahedan; the identity of the third has not been announced. The Baluchestan Human Rights Documentation Network says that in addition to this sum, the security officials have set the condition that the bodies be buried at night, in the presence of agents and without other relatives, and have warned the families that there will be consequences if relatives attend the ceremony.

Holding the dead hostage

Keeping the bodies of the dead and extracting money or pledges from their families in return for releasing them is a method the Islamic Republic has used repeatedly in recent years; among other cases, after the killing of protesters in the Dey uprising, when the families of many of the fallen came under financial and security pressure to receive the bodies of their loved ones. The condition of a night burial without relatives is also meant to prevent the ceremony from turning into a protest gathering.

Sistan and Baluchestan under military pressure

The report comes as armed clashes and operations by military forces in Sistan and Baluchestan have intensified in recent months. HRANA had earlier announced that from 31 March to 10 October at least 94 people were killed in Sistan and Baluchestan. On Tuesday, 13 October, two armed clashes in Zahedan and Taftan also left at least six dead. Meanwhile, fellow Baloch countrymen pay the highest price of repression and lawlessness.

The Islamic Republic has demanded 10 billion tomans from the families to hand over the bodies of three young Baloch men.
