Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a meeting with Defence Minister Israel Katz and the country's senior security officials at the Israeli military headquarters (the Kirya) in Tel Aviv on Sunday evening, 11 October 2026. According to the Times of Israel, citing an Israeli official, the meeting focused on the situation regarding the Islamic Republic, the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
The APA news agency, also citing the Times of Israel, said the meeting took place at the Israeli Defence Ministry compound in Tel Aviv. At the time of publication, the Israeli prime minister's office had not released any details of the discussions or decisions taken.
Concern over an escalation of the US–Islamic Republic war
According to the Times of Israel, the meeting was held immediately after repeated attacks on Saudi Arabia by the Houthis, the Islamic Republic's allies in Yemen, and amid growing concern over an escalation of the war between the United States and the Islamic Republic. The Houthi attack on Riyadh airport left at least 12 dead and more than 300 wounded, and Netanyahu has condemned it.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Republic has called Washington's response to its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz "insufficient", a position that Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, repeated on Sunday. Donald Trump had earlier said that the United States will not strike Iran before the midterm elections, but that the naval blockade of the Islamic Republic will continue.

Background: speculation about a new strike on the Islamic Republic
In recent days, reports have emerged about a possible resumption of strikes on the Islamic Republic. The newspaper Maariv reported that the United States had asked Israel to attack the Islamic Republic on its own, a report that US and Israeli officials denied. Israel's general election is also due in about three weeks.
