Pejman Sourani, a 33-year-old man from Najafabad in Isfahan province, was killed with extreme violence by government forces on 3 October 2026 following a verbal argument at a petrol station, according to Iran Human Rights Society. The human rights group published details of the killing on Sunday 11 October.

According to Voice of America, citing Iran Human Rights Society, officers chased Pejman Sourani, struck him with a car, beat him severely in front of other citizens and smashed his head against a wall, then took him by ambulance to an unknown location. According to the same report, the forensic autopsy found that the cause of death was severe blows to the head. He was buried in his hometown of Najafabad on Monday 5 October.

Background: identified over the Dey uprising

Iran Human Rights Society says the security agencies had previously identified Pejman Sourani for taking part in the nationwide Dey 1404 uprising (December 2025–January 2026). At the time of publication, the Islamic Republic's officials had given no explanation for his death.

The report comes a few days after the Isfahan judiciary called "false" the account of the beating of Omid Ghanouni, a teenager from Khansar who died in custody; a case that made the death of Omid Ghanouni in custody in Khansar one of the latest examples of violence by the forces of repression in Isfahan province. A few days ago, Erfan Jamalzehi, a 15-year-old from Zahedan, was also wounded in the head by gunfire from military forces.

Risk of execution for 12 detainees in the "Gheleh Chanan" case in Khuzestan

Iran Human Rights Society also warned that 12 citizens detained in a case known as "Gheleh Chanan" in Ahvaz are at risk of execution. According to the group, the 12 face charges such as "moharebeh" ("waging war against God") and "armed uprising against the system", which could lead to death sentences, and there are reports of torture, denial of access to lawyers and forced confessions in the case.

According to Voice of America, security forces raided the Gheleh Chanan area with firearms on 9 March 2026, during a complete internet shutdown; at least two residents were killed and 14 were arrested. Some of the detainees have been accused, without any evidence being presented, of blowing up an oil pipeline and collaborating with the United States and Israel.

According to Iran Human Rights Society, the forensic autopsy found severe blows to the head to be the cause of Pejman Sourani's death.
