Editorial policy
How DIAR chooses, verifies, sources and corrects the news.
Editorial line
DIAR is a Persian-language outlet that supports a transition to a free, secular and democratic Iran led by Prince Reza Pahlavi, and opposes the Islamic Republic, the People's Mojahedin (MEK), leftist groups and separatist groups. Our stance shows in how news is chosen and framed, never in inventing or bending facts.
Sources
Outlets inside Iran, which work under the Islamic Republic's censorship, are not news sources for DIAR; we name them only to show the regime's own claims next to the facts. Outlets of the MEK, leftist and separatist groups are not our sources either. The sources of each report are listed at its end.
Verification
We never guess or invent quotes, numbers, names or dates. A citizen report with a single source is published labelled "being checked". Claims of the Islamic Republic are tested against the evidence in "Claim and fact".
Editor review
Every report is approved by an editor before publication. Reports are signed "DIAR exclusive correspondent" to protect our colleagues, especially those inside Iran.
Corrections
When an error is found in a report, we correct it openly and add a dated correction note under the report and on the Corrections page.
Photos
Every report carries the most relevant photo possible: a report about a person shows that person, a report about a place or event shows that place or event. A photo that does not show the event is labelled as an archive photo.
One nation
All citizens of Iran are Iranian. Instead of ethnic labels, DIAR names people's city or region of origin, for example "an Iranian citizen from Baluchestan".
Independence and funding
DIAR is an independent outlet with no ties to the Islamic Republic. To protect our supporters, their names are not published. Questions about DIAR's funding can be sent through our contact page.
